Phreaking google play shop

In my opinion, google play shop is a childish, ridiculous name. During the next few days, I intend to change the name on my phone back to Market, and change the icon back.

I agree, it's kind of dumb. It would make sense more if was just for movies, music and games. But how do books, and office applications fit into play? It's just a name, I suppose. And the masses will adjust to it. Just like they did to iTunes, which has more than just music.

By accident or design, Google certainly seem to be benefiting from the age old adage :-

"Any publicity is good publicity.
(also There's no such thing as bad publicity.)

Definition
said to emphasize that it is better that something receives bad publicity than no publicity at all."

(Definition of Any publicity is good publicity. from the Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary & Thesaurus

I don't understand why they switched from a good describing name, a name that almost everyone knew to a childish one that seems to focus only on gaming?

In my opinion, new android users probably won't take apps seriously in the same way as before. A childish name that signals gaming is going to off people who is not into "playmode".

Regardless of name - doing a search for an app is still a pain.

They seem to have obliterated categories so everything even vaguely associated with the search turns up.

Does anyone have any search modifiers you can add to the word to reduce some of the nonsense?

They haven't obliterated categories - the APPS tab gives 8 headings with Categories extreme left and Trending extreme right selected by right/left swiping. Whichever category is selected you get a similar set of headings navigated by right/left swiping again. Well, at least that's the case on my Desire S !!! Whichever page you leave on you return to on your next visit.

The same format applies to Books and Movies. I don't have a problem with it !!!

It doesn't show in quite the same way on my laptop as it does on the Desire S, which isn't surprising because the screen is somewhat bigger and right/left swipe doesn't work on my laptop, but everything is there with a Top Charts tab showing Top Free, Top Paid etc. and a Categories tab which shows exactly the same list of applications as the Play Store app does on the Desire S.
