I have a HTC MyTouch 3g and my gf has a Samsung Intercept - both have the android 2.2.1 upgraded version and we are both having the same pic messaging problem. When I recieve almost any kind of forward, pic or mms message from anyone I get a little download box which I click on and it shows downloading.... but then in a few min I get a message stating the message could not be downloaded and to try again. According to the android manual my messaging settings (set from the messaging menu settings) should be set to auto-retrieve - which I have check marked and I also have roaming auto-retrieve checkmarked. I can send her a pic and she can send me a pic and they will open sometimes and sometimes they won't... I have a friend who has a older Android operating system and his won't at all!

Maybe that will help you ...

There is a work around for "unsupported media type" problem :)
Save (automatically) the pictures from messaging to SD card with this app (free in market) ...

try turning off wifi when trying to receive the MMS's or sending them. Sometimes this works sometimes it doesn't, but I know that when I turn wifi off they always go through, but that could be because I'm using Handcent. I fig it's worth a try either way.
