Newbie
have a friend with an at&t galaxy s3. she can attach a picture to a text and send successfully, but cannot receive a picture. she receives regular text ok. she has uverse with wifi in her home. she tried with the wifi on and off, no difference. any suggestions?

Hi there, laflaone. I've moved this to the Galaxy S3 board so fellow owners will be more likely to see it.

Can you tell us a little bit more about the problem? For example, if your friend receives a text that should have a picture attached to it, is there ANYTHING there to indicate the missing picture? An error message, a link, anything? Or is it just not there and if she didn't know it should've been, she'd never be the wiser?

Not positive since I don't use AT&T but it sounds like she may have an carrier APN issue.

There are messaging apps which allow you to override the phone's APN. ChompSMS has that feature and has a free version of the app. Just find out the correct APN and set it using ChompSMS. Again, not sure that's the problem but it's easy to check and fix if it is.

I am looking into what are the correct APN settings for her ATT galaxy, and compare to what is on her phone. I will also look into ChompSMS. Thanks

You'll need to get that info from the AT&T section.

1st, you will have to make ChompSMS your default messaging app. You will also have to disable the NOTIFICATIONS in the default messaging app or you will get double notifications for messages.

To locate the settings in ChompSMS. Open the app settings, then navigate to SMS MMS SETTINGS then MMS SETTINGS, then MANUALLY CONFIGURE APN SETTINGS. Once there you will be able to manually enter the proper APN settings. These settings will override the default phone settings.

You usually only have to do this when running ROMs from a different carrier. CyanogenMod, Corbon, and other AOSP ROMs need APN settings reconfigured sometimes too.

I hope this helps. The APN settings can be set through the hidden menu too but the method I've mentioned above is the easiest work around.

Good luck. :)
