Pie on Pixel Date Question

I've upgraded to Android 9 (Pie) on my Pixel. The date now appears in the upper left corner of my home screen where my app notifications are. Is there any way to remove this?

Nope, that's the way it is in Android 9. I think the idea might be that some phones have big "notches" (including the Pixel 3 XL), and in that case the clock, signal, battery, wifi, VPN and other system icons on the right might not all fit. So they've moved the clock to the left to avoid that problem.

I expect that someone will produce a custom ROM with an option to move this (because I've used ROMs with earlier Android versions that let you change the clock placement), but as far as stock, unrooted Android 9 goes I think you are out of luck.

Ah, but reading again I see you are asking about the date rather than the time. That's odd, because my Pixel 2 (also on 9) does not show the date, just the time. Indeed I can't find any option to set the date (though the system UI tuner, which is now hidden but can be accessed via some jiggery-pokery, does let you show seconds or turn the clock off completely). Perhaps this is different in the original Pixel, but that is a little surprising itself.
