Pixel 2 hotspot

I'm currently using a samsung galaxy s7 but it's starting to seriously overheat. It's still under the extended warranty but squaretrade refuses to do anything with it. They claim water damage although I have never had it near water, and it just came back from squaretrade from a previous claim. So anyway I'm looking at the Pixel 2. With my S7 I have always been able to use the mobile hotspot with my Straight Talk at&t sim inside the phone. While my phone was in the shop I've been using a Moto G5+ and when I tried to use the hotspot it says the hotspot was not supported on this phone. I did some googling and apparently it's some code within the phone.

So finally, my question-has anyone been able to use the hotspot in the pixel 2 with a straight talk regular $45 account? Or is it restricted like on the Moto?

The Pixel 2 will check with the carrier to see if tethering is provisioned prior to activating the hotspot. If it is, it should work fine.

Is tethering included with your mobile service?

Well if it's not included with your mobile service I'm afraid it won't work with the native tethering on the Pixel 2. There's always the option of using a third-party hotspot app which may or may not work.

Thank you. I used it on my older Google branded phones but I believe they were rooted at the time, and I'm not planning to root any of my future phones. Before that I did use an app. I think it had fox in the name of the app but I don't remember the exact name.
