Pixel 2 slow after Pie update

Hi all new to the forums,

I've noticed my pixel 2 being significantly slower since the pie update.

The whole phone seems more sluggish and a fair few of the apps freeze through out the day.

I don't know what to do with it tbh, I haven't tried a factory reset yet but it's a shame if it stays this way because the only reason I got this phone was because it was meant to have a long support life span but if the first update wrecks it then I'm fairly disappointed.

The phone only has half of storage filled as well so don't think thats the problem.

It's not universal, because mine hasn't suffered any slowdown or freezes (of course problems with specific apps can also be due to the app not being updated for the OS version).

Unfortunately you can no longer clear the system cache from recovery, so I don't know anything you can try apart from a reset, which is obviously a hassle.

Mine is a bit slower as well, especially the camera. When taking a photo, now a round circle appears (like a spinning hollow circle) that the outside of the circle fills with color in a clockwise motion, and then snaps the photo. I'm talking seriously slow camera. I personally hate the volume rockers changing media all the time instead of ring volume, but whatever that's just user preference.

The volume rocker thing is a deliberate choice: they claim that most people rarely use it for ringer volume (just have it on or muted) and so this better suits the usage of a larger number of people. For me personally that's true: I leave the ringer at full and use the quick settings to mute it when I want it quiet, but obviously it doesn't suit everyone.

The camera thing is weird, since mine is as fast as ever. Are you using HDR+ Enhanced? I just did a quick test and while HDR+ Off and regular HDR+ are almost instant, HDR+ Enhanced does introduce a small delay (a little less than a second), including the spinning hollow circle you describe. But that mode always was slower, and I can't honestly tell you whether the update has slowed it down because I used it once last year to test it, decided it did nothing for me and turned it off. But if you don't normally use it but it's somehow been turned on then it will certainly make the camera slower.
