Pixel 3 XL - Tiny White Dot in upper right??

Hello -
Not sure why Pixel 3 XL wasn't in the drop-down list for me to choose, but that is what I have and I've searched all over for what this tiny white dot in the upper right means. It's not always there, so can't firgure it out. I've Googled and I find stuff about notification dots, but that seems like they are on the app icon itself. Can someone enlighten me?

I suspect it means that you have more icons there that can't fit because of the notch. Things like location indicators, Bluetooth transfers, upcoming alarms, active VPNs. Basically an overflow indicator.

Same thing can happen on the left side if you have many notifications, yup.

Phooey! Tried logging into every app and changing notifications and looking at all my apps, but it's still there. Rebooted twice, too. Oh well. Guess I'll have to get used to it. :-/

I guess that's a disadvantage of having a notch, there's much less space for notification icons and status indicators.

A dot on the right won't be for app notifications but system ones. That's why I listed the items I did, as they are the sort of thing that appear there.

I believe that the whole notch phenomenon will be temporary, but this has been the year of the notch, and this is a consequence.

Another reason I don't like phone's with notches. I'll be glad when this awful design comes to an end.
