Plan Question

Here is the scenario:
Me and my dad are on family share plan. We have both had our dumb phones for almost 3 years. I have 100 NE2. If I upgrade to a droid i will have to add a 30 data plan. My dad keeps his dumb phone...Fast forward three months from now, the new greatest android phone gets released. Can I get that newest greatest android phone at the 2 year sub price for my dad's line, but activate it for my line, not get charged that extra data plan, and just have his contract extended for 2 more yrs?

I did that last year only in reverse. My phone died so I used my Dad's upgrade as he was happy with his dumbphone to get myself a multimedia phone to hold me until my $100 NE2 came to fruition and I could get a smartphone. The only problem I can see is some vzw reps on other forum sites say certain phones have stipulations with them where they have to stay on the line with the upgrade. I don't know if this only applies to smartphones or if you only have to keep it on the upgrade line for a certain amount of time, but maybe someone else on this site can expound on this further.
