Play thru home stereo

Im trying to use an aux cable and Y adapter to connect to my AUX connection on my home stereo. Once I plug it in it doesnt recognize the headphone port being used.
I can use the same aux cable on my phone in my truck and it works fine.
Any ideas?

Lots of possibilities here, but perhaps the rings on the terminal plug of the cable aren't a match for the ones on your home stereo? In the audio world there's rarely 'a one fits all' solution.
