Playing 8+ MB MP3 files on android player

Hey guys, did a quick search of this topic and didnt find anything on it, so my apologies if this has already been covered.

I've been trying to play relatively large Mp3 files on my android (Virgin Mobile Optimus V) stock- they are essentially lectures that are about an hour long and file sizes roughly 8-20MB, but they are not playing.

The files show up on my playlist for the stock android audio player, but when I click on them, they simply go to other songs on my list. So yes, the android player seems to be working because my music tracks (also MP3 format) work, but the lectures don't.

Anyone know if the stock android audio player has an upper limit for MP3 file size or MP3 audio length?? Or, does anyone know any (very versatile) alternate MP3 players that I can download from the marketplace?

Thanks!!

You can try out the music app I developed called "Music Player (Remix)" to see if it can play your files. It actually has several features beneficial for listening to longer audio files such as:

1) Manual bookmarks - set as many manual bookmarks in a single file which appear as visual markers on the scrubber bar. Skip between them using the next/previous buttons or pull up a list of all bookmarks in a song. You can also pull up all saved bookmarks in your collection.

2) Auto bookmarks - the last played position is automatically saved in each file you play. You can listen to a lecture, then start listening to some music, then go back to the lecture and resume where you last left off even if you forgot to set a manual bookmark.

3) Fine-tuned music controls - long-tap the pause/play tap area (on the album art) to display the fine-tuned controls for skipping forward or backward by 5, 30, or 60 seconds.

4) Mini-player - this feature isn't just beneficial for longer audio files, but it does come in handy when listening to those as well. From within any other app, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to display the mini-player. In addition to your regular controls, you can also access the fine-tuned music controls and view your bookmark markers on the scrubber bar. Plus you can scroll through your playlist to select another track. And you can do all of this without leaving another app you may be using.

You can grab the free, fully-functional 14-day trial version here to see if it can play your files: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hedami.mprtrial

And here's the link to the full version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hedami.musicplayerremix

I just tested a 13.5MB 64Kbps MP3 from the Internet Archive Old Time Radio Programs section and it worked fine in the stock Music Player on my Samsung Galaxy S2 with Android 4.0.4. It worked fine. I really don't think there is an upper limit for MP3 formatted file size or length. Do you have any more specifications about the file your trying to play? Is there a place to download one of those 20MB MP3's or could you post one somewhere where I could test it for you?
