Playing 8khz (voicemail) wav files

I see there has been some discussion of this before, but none of it quite matches my situation.

Like others who have posted before:

-my office voice mail will forward a copy of a voice mail, as a wav file, to my corporate email.

-this shows up in my email as an attached file on the Droid.

-when I attempt to open the attachment, Droid tells me it's not supported.

Some have noted that Droid supports wav files and they don't have this problem. I saw a comment that suggested the problem seemed to have been fixed in 2.1 but broke again in 2.2.

My situation is that opening the attachments always allowed me to play the files until recently. I've checked, and I can currently play 44.1khz wav files on the Droid fine, but not 8khz wav files (the type recorded by the voice mail).

Can anyone confirm that my former success and current problem is due to the fact that a previous Android OS on my Droid played 8khz wav files and that the current OS (2.2) does not play 8khz wav files?

Thanks,
-Scott

Have you tried Rock Player for the droid? thats the only other player I know of, otherwise you will have to transfer to a pc and convert to mp3 or 44.1khz wav.

Nope. I haven't tried anything but the stock media player. Actually, a more accurate statement would be that the mail program attempts to open the files with the stock media player, which used to work, but no longer does. Do you know that Rock Player will play 8khz files?

Thanks,

Mine stopped working too with the 2.2 update on my Incredible. I installed wavplayer from the Market (99 cents) and used it as the default player for wav files.
