Playing a Video

Hi. When I go to a website that has a video, i.e. the NY times and i click on it. it doesn't play. does that mean i have to have a video player downloaded to play it? I thought the HTC Eris (which is the phone i have) automatically plays video.

I have a similar problem. My vidoes will start but then the picture will freeze
