playstore on wifi problems, what gives?

I have what seems like a simple problem but I can't figure it out. I can't download or update anything from the playstore on my wifi at work. I can browse through the available apps, but no download. The internet works just fine on the wifi though. At home, playstore works just fine on wifi. Two other guys in the building that have S7 edges have the same problem. We just upgraded on Friday from galaxy S4's, and the playstore worked just fine on those. I'm sure that I'm missing something obvious, any ideas?

I believe the play store uses port 5228 for downloads, so if your firewall allows traffic on 80 and 8080 (http and https) but not 5228 you'll be able to browse the play store but not download apps. Check with your IT dept.

I was wondering whether their might be some firewall issues, but I can grab my old S4 and download all I want through the wifi on the same network so I would think that this would rule out any firewall blocks.

Are you sure your S4 was set to download over WiFi only? You might try logging out of the play store and logging back in. It might be a wacky token issue, especially if you transferred apps and settings to the new phone from the old one.

That's why I'm feeling stumped. The S4 is on wifi only as the device has been deactivated from Verizon but still gets on the playstore. For the note 5, I cleared the data and cache for the playstore, uninstalled and reinstalled the playstore updates. I also cleared the data and cache for the download manager system app. I have updated the note 5 to marshmallow. I'm going to check on the port anyway for the fun of it.

Solved. Turns out that there was a conflict between the IPv4 and IPv6 on the phone and network. Although the router at my work was not configured to use IPv6, the IPv6 traffic was not disabled and was causing problems. Disabling all IPv6 traffic on the router immediately solved the problem. I imagine that IPv6 traffic is disabled on my home router already and the S4 didn't utilize the IPv6 at all. Some googling revealed that others had this problem and found this solution as well. I hope this is helpful to others that run across this. FYI, our firewall router at work is a Dell SonicWALL model TZ 215.

It could be that the phone was attempting to use IPv6 but the DHCP service wasn't giving it an IP, so it showed IPv4 connection but was trying a limited IPv6 route. Glad you got it figured out.
