Hi

Please can someone help me sort out my HTC M9? I'ts my first Android since leaving Apple and first appearances are good but could anyone please answer these questions that will probably be very simple to you?
  1. Ive downloaded new ringtones from the Play store but cant find them on my phone to assign them, how do i get them to appear on my phone?
  2. Can i lock the ring volume so i dont keep turning it down in my pocket or when im handling it? i can accidently turn the ringer volume down when trying to alter another volume and i dont realise until ive missed that call or miss a very important alarm, like in the morning for work.
  3. Whats the best way to print from my phone? i dont really want to forward to a PC then to a printer i want to print direct from my phone.
  4. I seem to always be accidently pressing the power button on the side and switching the screen off, is there a way to change this to maybe press twice to avoid accidents?
  5. What can i use my SD storage for? It seems all apps want to save to internal storage and im not sure how i can change this.
  6. Ive switched typing sounds off but when i go on to Playstore i get them back, very annoying how can i REALLY switch them all off?
  7. Playstore keeps opening when i open certain games, i them have to press the multi task button and go back to the game. WTF is that all about?
Dont get me wrong, i really quite like my phone but im just trying to understand it.
I would really appreciate some help, thank you.

Hi

I dont have your phone but:

3) printhand - an app in playstore is the best way to print that I have found. Maybe if you have a google cloud print enabled printer then cloud print would do, but otherwise, printhand seems the best.

5) The sd card can be use dfor photos, music, maps, ebooks, documents etc. Generally, not for apps themselves. The settings to use the sd card are normally found within each app.

The other questions are phone specific so I have not guessed, but moved your question to the M9 forum

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on your new phone :D

1. I've never downloaded ringtones from the play store - I just copy the audio files I want to /sdcard/Ringtones (/storage/sdcard0/Ringtones is the same folder) and my M7 finds them. Looking at the contents of that folder I may have created it myself :). Do you know where these tones currently downloaded to? If not, look in a folder called Download.

6. Do you mean keyboard sounds? I can't understand why visiting the Play Store should alter that. I just turn sounds off in the keyboard settings and they stay off, though I gather the M9 has a new keyboard rather than the normal HTC Sense one. To be honest I use SwiftKey anyway, but never had this problem with any keyboard.

A couple of things you will learn with Android: there's usually more than one way of doing anything, and there's no need to stick with the pre-installed app if there's a better one out there. :)

I use a free app from the playstore called zedge for ringtones and wall papers.

Some apps will go onto the SD card i can not speak for which ones. I have the m8 but i keep all my pics, videos, music and movies.... on my sd card but if i do get close to the 32 gigs in apps which i hope i never do. You can go into the settings-apps and then some apps will have a move to sd card option. Depending on the speed of your sd card. The internal memory is usually faster. If you have a high quality micro sd card you wont notice a speed difference but if you have a cheapie you might encounter problems.

The volume buttons, If you are pressing them in your pocket i use an app called gravity so when the phone is in my pocket the screen is off so i dont pocket dial people and i do not have to swipe to unlock. If you use this you will want to to exclude some apps. It is very useful.

If you have an HP printer this is a great resource.

Check out "HP Print Service Plugin"

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hp.android.printservice

Anywhere you have an app with a print option, that app will let you see your printer. Direct connection, no machine hopping.

I use this next one for apps that don't have direct printing support.

Check out "HP All-in-One Printer Remote"

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hp.printercontrol

Lollipop/M8, pretty sure just as good with the M9.

Other printer brands have similar apps.

The ultimate in customization sans rooting/ROMMING would be using a home replacement app,or,more commomly referred to a Launcher (app).

I'd suggest NOVA Launcher,it's one of the most customizable launcher apps available & a popular one to boot,
Support in this forum will be easy to come by should you try this app out.
I use a similar app, but,I'd be more than willing to help out should the occasion arise.

As for the errant button triggers while in-pocket:
If you plan on using a case for this phone, may I suggest a case w/cut-outs for the buttons.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/For-HTC-One...802?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item541bcebe32

I'm currently using one w/that design & I've found it to be an excellent choice.Coincidentally,it actually makes it easier to locate the buttons by feel than w/o a case.Win-Win.

Oh, & BTW.........
