Help Please Help! Leelbox Q1 Master stops internet from working!

Hi all,

I got a Leelbox Q1 Master yesterday. For half an hour i couldnt figure out why i couldnt connect it to the internet properly. Then i realised, the box was the problem.

The internet works fine, literally the second i turn on the Leelbox the internet stops working on all devices including the Leelbox. When i turn the box off, within a couple of minutes, the internet is back on again.

I have no idea what is causing this and haven't found anything online. Talk Talk have been unable to help.

Any ideas?
 
What kind of connection is the box using to access the internet, WiFi or LAN?

Also - are you running a VPN on the box?

Thanks for the reply. I've tried wireless and LAN, both have the same effect. I'm not using a VPN, i'm not sure what that is to be honest!

Yeah, me neither. I've been racking my brains on this one.

I wonder if another identical box would have the same effect... or whether modem settings could be an issue?

Unfortunately i can't check regarding another box.

Do you know whether these sorts of boxes reserve bandwidth or something like that? I do have slow internet (max 4mb), so i wonder whether this box is reserving bandwidth for streaming (even if i'm not actually streaming anything at the time). It could be the case that when i turn it on, it automatically takes up 4mb and hence none of my other devices can load pages.

I've noticed this morning the internet doesnt actually go off i.e. the internet light stays on on the router, more my devices can't load anything.

So, to answer that - does the device work when there is nothing else connected to the internet and ONLY the Android TV Box has access.

If it does then I think you may have to mess around with modem settings to 'share' your bandwidth amongst all your devices.

If your device still cuts off your internet, then it's time to practice your favourite swear words and think about replacing the box... or vastly improving your internet connect!

So i've done a bit of testing this morning.

I've done a speedtest with everything besides one laptop disconnected. I got 3.81mbs and 3.76mbs download speeds, which is about as expected as the internet in my area is terrible.

I then turned the Android box on, did the speedtest again and i got 0.81mbs and 0.61mbs download speeds, obviously a significant reduction for some reason. So it seems the box is throttling my internet speeds.

The box was not able to stream anything, but then again i dont think it would be able to with internet at 0.6mbs anyway as it tries to stream in HD when it's having troubles even loading menu pages. So i guess the question is whether this is 'normal' for the box to reducing download speeds, and the problem is that if my internet was faster, the box would reduce speeds still but i'd be left with enough left over. Whereas now its reducing an already extremely slow internet connection to next to nothing.

I'll try and look at the bandwidth sharing you mentioned.

A good test for the box is YouTube as it will adjust the video quality to your connection.

Also: fiddling with your router to split up your limited bandwidth will be a double edged sword... and will choke all your devices!

Is there no chance of upgrading your Internet connection? :(

No unfortunately i'm stuck with this internet for a while. We're waiting on fibre to come to our area at the moment!

So. I can stream youtube on 144p. Which suggests box is working fine, but shaves a few mb of our speed, and we dont have much to spare!

I dont really think there's anything i can do in this instance apart from wait for fibre to come along!

Yep... it seems your lousy internet connection is your bain to bear... at least for now.
I hope you can get something better soon. :)
