Help please help - missing contacts

I have samsung galaxy S and two hours after last call all my contact that where saved on the phone are missing
I looked at people for hidden categories and it's not
I looked at my gmail account and it is missing thier two
please help

Were your contacts saved on Phone, SIM or those were Google contacts ?

I had this issue once and luckily all my contacts being Google contacts (with sync always on), it was a charm to get back all of them.
