Root PLS HELP...constant changes in the cpu frequency

I'm rooted on BP so I really hope I'm posting in the correct area of the forum...if not hopefully this can be moved.

I use Temp + Cpu Pro and System Panel to monitor the cpu activity and which apps are responsible. The issue is that with my device setting on the table and the screen on so I can watch the cpu monitors the cpu frequency and percentage of use are all over the place. In other words constantly changing. I have taken a look at which apps are active during the spikes and Holo Launcher and System Panel are on the active list but causing a minimal amount of activity. Now I have turned off all wifi, data and background activity, no change. I wiped everything, re flashed BP and started over. Before setting up my normal apps I DL'd System Panel, Temp + Cpu Pro, No Frills cpu and nothing else. The erratic activity is still going on. I tried using lag free governor and the frequency spikes still occur theres just a slower decline after the spike. I tried on demand and the problem persists. I'm now on the conservative governor and it does a good job of managing the frequency spikes by moderately maintaining a low frequency and the spikes occur a lot less often. Now the % of cpu usage is still all over the place, 4%, 18%, 1%, 23%, 9%, 6%, 31%...I'm sure you get the point.

Can someone take a look at their cpu activity with the device undisturbed and tell me what they see? Ive exhausted myself on this issue and I hope someone can HELP ME FIX THESE ISSUES...PLEASE HELP???

Are you noticing any performance issues? If not I wouldn't worry about it. Your cpu levels will fluctuate depending on usage from any app or system setting.

I think we need to have a class on how cpus on phones with Android work, because I've come across a few people that aren't aware of how they function and have the notion they work like a pc.

You're going to see spikes in the cpu as apps use the processor and as the os kills/caches apps for use. That's perfectly normal and not a flaw in the phone.

Using a governor will help determine how the spikes occur... On demand is essentially dead until the processor is called and then it's full bore. Conservative will slowly ramp up and generally peak in shorter amounts and performance keeps it @ full.

What you don't see is the os, killing and caching apps based on your use and app settings... This use, combined with widgets and apps that run on a schedule, ae why you see spikes when you're not using it actively.

Nice! You helped me, in another thread, figure out if there were apps causing the spikes and now you hand out a break down of how the cpu is used on Android. Thanks for sharing, exactly what I needed.

Any time, man :) I had some of the same concerns when I got my first droid... Android is like Linux, but does more precaching for better performance. That's totally different than how windows functions, so it can be a bit confusing to see apps in memory when you didn't use them. Many people, like I did, see that, freak out and kill all and think there's something wrong.... But there isn't :)

Another thing to remember is app killers are counterproductive to android. Use them when you have apps running and you want them killed or use them to clear ram to try to get better performance (rebooting works better), but killing apps after use or doing it constantly actually slows the performance because the os sees a stop/start of apps, rather than seeing solid use/non-use. It caches apps based on how much they're used, so the run/kill of app killers can make the os work harder to figure out which apps should be cached.

In general, I only 'kill all' when my phone has been up for a few days and I see some apps are using more ram than usual. It's rare, though.

I noticed my battery life had dropped and started digging around to see what was causing the heavier load. One issue is that I have never set and watched the cpu activity the way that I have for the last several days and I don't really have a base line or anything to compare the current activity with. This is why I was hoping someone could watch the cpu activity on their device and post what they see.

Try conservative for a day or two. If you notice there is a lag when you wake it up, try lagfree. They'll offer considerable savings over the performance governors.. Underclocking helps too.

MrB? What you posted in this thread has helped me considerably. Being a noob to android, Ive noticed the info we need to effectively operate our devices, isnt in any owners manual. Its nice to see people willing to give advice. Thanks, again.

If you like/appreciate what someone has shared then I would encourage you to click/select the thanks button on the members post you found helpful...;)...hint...hint...LOL.

Lol I don't care about that.

@ russ: any time. I'm no professional but I remember how much I wanted to know stuff and couldn't find the answers. Many of us here are experienced with devices, android and development so just ask and we'll try to answer :) I'm finndo77;4708029 has a great website with tons of great info and tools. I can't remember what it is offhand, but he'll probably see this and post it here.
