Help Pls help. Error encounterd while downloading gingerbread upgrade.

Today i tried to upgrade my sgs through kies.

I first upgraded my kies to latest version, but the upgrade encounters problem while starting to download upgrade. It ends with a windows error prompt saying "an error occured...".

I tried running Kies with "Run as administrator" mode, but same errors pops up everytime.

First Step of downloading required components went smoothly:

You may need to disable Anti-virus and/or Firewall on your PC.
It is known that Norton does interfere when trying to update your phone.

remove Kies and make sure you have download the upto date version then re-install...

Ive exactly the same problem, installed latest Kies, rebooted pc, but get the same error message. Also Kies wont back up either,w hich it did previously. Any ideas? Thanks

I updated my kies with the version available at SAMSUNG United Kingdom - Main (Kies_2.0.1.11053_66_6.exe available under support > downloads > firmware updates > download kies button),
and then did a factory reset.
Doing this solved my problem of "unexpected error encountered, the application needs to be closed".
