Plug gets very hot!

Charging my tab s2 with the supplied cable is not a problem. However that cable has started to split and fray just at the plug end. (not uncommon). So I plugged another micro usb cable into the adapter and started charging my tablet. After 10 minutes I noticed that the cable end plugged into the tablet was very hot. I never had this with the other cable. I thought these cables were generic. Is it a possible cable fault? Thanks, Tony

Actually it is uncommon, if you treat your cables correctly they should last several years without a problem. If yours are often fraying it sounds like maybe you've been yanking on the cord itself when removing it (?), not the proper way by grabbing the plug end. Also, USB cables are not specifically generic, there are different USB standards, there are fast-charging cables, and while most are data/power cables there are some that are power only (no data transfer capability). Plus there are varying quality levels, where most cheap, bargain-specials are made with lower quality, smaller gauge wire and plug ends manufactured with little quality control.

But it does sound like that cable could be a problem. Spend a little more to get a quality USB cable replacement. Battery charging problems can often be hard to diagnose, eliminate that common variable of a crappy cable.
