Help plz help in downloading apps from pc

I have 2 problems actually

1) I recently bought an xperia x10i(android 2,1)...but sadly i dont have any data services yet.And i wud love to download .apk files using my pc's broadband connection and transfer it to sd card.But my phone didnt come with any apps installer or file manager
what should i do?...i have seen some forums where in i need to download some software to my pc...but i didnt fully understand it...could u please explain step by step method of how to do that and also let me know if there is any harm if i do so

2) If by whatever means i get any data or 3g services for sometime....wat should i do then?
i dont have any android market pre installed in it as i bought it from middle east...and i reside in india

You need to completely reflash the phone if you want access to the Market.

Go to Sony's website and download SEUS and reinstall 2.1 on the phone.

is it necessary?....is there any other way

n there is another problem with my phone now
im tagging some photos i've taken but when i restart the phone they disappear!!

You don't have an application that allows you to run an APK....so you can't install any apps without that or the store.

You need to do a backup and reflash so that you do get access to the market.....otherwise you can never add any apps at all.

you have Android made for Saudi. You need to reflash (reinstalling firmware) on phone and put on a generic version that can be used in any country.

Debranding means removing all the Android stuff that Google Saudi Arabia thought should be on there. Removing whatever cell provider put on there.

SEUS wouldn't be enough. Google Sony SEUS. It is the Sony software for the phone. (PC Companion is the lesser software)
