It's not often I find myself in a mall, but when I do go, I can never seem to find my way around. Those monolithic maps never seem to be where you need them, and that's where Point Inside Maps comes in.

This free app has a database of US and Canadian malls providing the name, address, phone number, store list, event and promotion information, and locations of any services such as lockers or ATM's.

In addition, there is a list of dining options that include food courts and attached restaurants. Selecting one of these, shows you hours of operation, and lets you call to make a reservation at the very prestigious Applebee's, for example.

The app gives you the option to use your GPS location as well. I've found this is most effective at the outdoor outlet type malls, rather than inside. This is mainly due to spotty GPS signals indoors, and not a fault of the app. For me, this is the main "selling" point and is great for the directionally challenged.

What's wrong with it?
At the moment, it's missing a lot of malls in certain areas.

Depending on where you live, this may not matter to you. For me, it's missing many in my area, and only has one (recently added) in my entire state. The floor maps are also images and have a finite resolution. When zooming all the way in, they do get a bit muddy.

The readability is also affected by the fact that in many cases, store names overlap and appear misaligned. The store names are fixed in the image, so rotation and zoom depth are not the cause. In the end, this isn't a deal breaker. You probably know what store you're looking for, and will see the name outside rather than having to stand around squinting at your phone.

Point Inside Maps for Malls
Pros
-Decent size database of US/Canadian malls (and growing)
-Contact information and hours for stores and restaurants
-Shows your GPS location on floor maps

Cons
-Some areas have poor coverage
-Readability of maps can be difficult with misaligned text
