Help Poor battery life since update

Eugene

Android Expert
Started noticing that both our RAZR's can't make it through the day without running out of battery over the last couple weeks. Only common change to both was the os update. Anyone else now have really bad battery life?

*raises hand*

Not HORRIBLE, but not nearly as nice as it was previously though. I'll go back to .173 or flash a new ROM eventually though.

Mine is also worse since the update. Pretty frustrating. If someone has access to the old pre update I'd love to have it back.

Mine is slightly worse also. Not sure if this helps but as I began to think about this it started to make sense I guess. I've been with Android since cupcake (1.5) and throughout all the phones I've ever had (wife says to many) including there many updates. I've noticed that anytime I received an update the battery life would decrease slightly.... The stand by time would increase but the usage time has always decreased. It was just a matter of by how much.

on light to moderate use, i get 2 to 3 days of use without charging! i also have the maxx and its modified by me! im using the x183 update GB.

I get about 4-5 hrs of use and then the battery dies. Its ******ed and I don't know what to do. I turn off everything use Juice defender etc and nothing helps. I feel I got a lemon battery.

Seems to me the battery life is no better or worse, if 4G is left on. If you turn 4G off, the battery does a good job, but always has. Catch there is markets with 3G and 4G have slower 3G (I can not help but notice places that are 3G-only have faster 3G than places with 4G). Streaming Netflix points this out.

If a person wants to use a lot of 4G during the day, the only logical choice is the Razr Maxx, since that will last until you get home. The total net use of the Razr for me is positive, but looking forward to a similar spec S4 device with better LTE...and global too! Yeah, like that will happen ;) ...... :(

BTW, yes, the Razr has spoiled me. Great device, in spite of the silly stuff.

Added:

Not good when going to England though :( Now, if my wife was from Germany instead, I would be good, since they have CDMA ;) The positive is both places have great beer :)

No noticeable difference in battery until today. Something called "rild" is killing 49-50% of my battery and I am almost dead, which is not normal for my phone. Its also been running hot for about 1-2 days.

Tried turning it off and on, no help. I think it might be related to the SIM card ... gonna try the reset. Anyone else know anything about this rild thing?

Have you tried turning off 4G? If you are in a fringe area, the phone will eat up the battery trying to constantly connect via 4G.

If you continue having trouble, take it back to Verizon and ask them to check the SIM card.

Gadgets, I had never had issues with 4G before this weekend; and while Pittsburgh can be spotty with 4G at times, I usually get pretty decent coverage. I did some research this weekend and noticed that there were some claiming that the rild function (which I learned it a needed function) went kind of haywire after installing the Instagram app. Well, I had just installed that app on Thursday or Friday night ... a day or two before noticing my phone getting hot.

Long story short, I uninstalled Instagram last night, reset the phone and turned off 4G. This morning, no rild going nuts. I just turned 4G back on about an hour ago, and rild came back, but totally within normal limits and then kicked back off. Phone is room temp, too. Dunno if Instagram is the culprit, but it seems to add up.

Mine has been worse as well. I just threw up the white flag and put juice defender back on the phone, but quite honestly I am not sure that it does anything other than irritate me.

This is the first phone that I have not rooted and run an smooth and efficient ROM...not sure why this phone scares me so much to root.

I guess the fact that I run 4G all the time, have my weather update, check email and have the brightness on 100% does not help matters.

I've never noticed that they had CDMA in Germany, and I've been over 6 times. Last time I went, I still had my Ally, and I had it on most of the time looking for WiFi. Never caught a CDMA signal.

I have a dual-band (Europe only) GSM candybar phone and I got a sim from Aldi Talk (ALDI TALK - Startseite) for 10EUR for that trip, and used my Ally on WiFi when I could.

On topic...I just got my Razr last week and I immediately upgraded to 2.3.6, it took 4 reboots to get all the updates. Battery life seems fine. I find surfing on web and app usage uses less battery on WiFi than 4G, go figure. I have good 4G signal at my house.

Haven't rooted, don't really see the need to with 3GB of app memory...

We both got ours back in Feb and battery life was fine, could go the whole day and be down to 50% when I plugged in to charge at night. Now I have to leave it plugged in all day at work and leave work at 100% only to be down to 50% at dinner time and flashing red at bed time if I'm lucky.

My battery life was fine, if not better, after the update. However as of yesterday I noticed my phone got real hot and the battery drained in a matter of a couple of hours, even though I have not done anything at all to it. I looked to see what was eating it, and this thing called RILD is up at 60%.

I did a few online searches on this, and have not been able to get rid of it devouring my battery.

Does anyone here have any ideas on how to prevent this from taking so much of my battery? I know it's a necessary process (apparently), but it's the first I've seen of it since I got the phone back in Feb.

Miki, check my above post. the same thing happened to my phone right after I downloaded Instagram. I did some research and others were citing Instagram as affecting the rild function. I uninstalled and rebooted and the problem went away.

A follow up to that post, I re-installed Instagram over the long weekend again to test this theory. Low and behold, the next day my phone heated up and the rild was back on top for battery use. Uninstalled again and rebooted, and phone is again fine. Don't know what it is with Instagram's program, but it does NOT like some phones.

I got my Razr 2 day ago and I would like to ask one thing about the battery. I've installed Battery Indicator which shows the percentage of the battery and I've realized (probably it's normal) that the battery is discharging by 10% (100-90-80 etc.)

Is this normal for the Razr?

The 10% decrease is what Battery Indicator displays. There are other options to get it displayed more exact. I installed Battery HD from Google Play and it gives me exact measurements, including how long my battery should last depending on what I'm doing, i.e. surfing the web (wifi or mobile), talk time, music playback, or video playback.
