Help Poor Reception, Bad Call Quality

Hey guys,

I just purchased a Samsung Galaxy S in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

I am having poor reception in places I have never had problems with before (non-smart phones). Fewer bars, , cutting out, and even "Emergency Calls Only" status.

Also, my wife purchased one as well, and when we talk to each other on our Galaxy's, we both sound like we are talking on dispatch radios, or mega-phones. Very poor quality most of the time. However, calls between other callers seem to be good for the most part.

I would like to know if others are having the same problems with their Galaxy's, if there is a download/fix to help improve reception OR is there a setting to improve call qualtiy (ie: microphone setting)

I recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S and seem to be having some reception problems also.
I was wondering if you are on the Telus network as well?

Yea, it's unfortuante that the Galaxy S has such poor sound. I tried to record something on it for the radio and the quality was just TERRIBLE (and I had to find another phone to re-record it because it was that bad). Reception is bad as well although that may be Optus in Australia.
 
I'm from Leduc (just south of edmonton) and its even worse here.. At work in nisku the phone is useless (lucky to even get one bar) and its not much better at home..
We own a samsung Galaxy captivate and I just purchased a Samsung Galaxy S slide..
both of these phones have the worst reception I have seen, and the slide is a tad worse..
 
Just West of you bud. I have the same problem with my phone period.
Only i've got even worse the thing freezes and What not, fixes when i swap battery and what not. It's BEEN Brutal ever since i Rooted ginger bread on it, I wish i could Put An official Samsung Android OS Onto it, but can't now cus Kies hates it lol.

but i get the emergency only status ALOT. the momment i leave the city
