POP account deletes mail!

Stock Email app on stock Android 2.3.5 on Galaxy Note.

I configured a POP account and under Incoming server settings I have Never for Delete email from server.

But it seems that the mail messages are deleted from the POP server. Then when it connects again, it finds that as the message is no more on the POP server it then deletes the copy in the Email app!

I did a simple test by sending a mail from another account to the POP account. I touched Load more messages, the mail comes into my Inbox. I touched Load more messages one more time and the mail disappears!

Is this a bug? The Email app is unuseable as it is.

Why not have gmail pull the email in, and not have that extra pull using battery?

I don't have any email accounts configured with the stock email app but I use K9 email and I can configure an account so that it deletes the message off the server after I download it, even with a POP account. After the emails are downloaded by clicking on the header the same email will not download again, even if I delete it from my phone but the message is still on the server.

The stock email program might have some similar configurations. It is possible to delete emails from the server with POP accounts as well as SMAP, at least with K9. Hope this helps some. Good luck.
