Help Pop up nightmare! HELP!

I recently purchased a Moto G (4th generation). Soon after my purchase I suddenly started getting random pop-ups. Even when I'm not using my phone, an add will start playing (wakes me up at night if I don't turn media volume all the way down).
But the WORSE part is when I'm playing a game... I'll get a random pop up (or Google Play store will open) and it kicks me out, and I have to reopen the game, losing any progress I've made since it did it before.

Is there a good anti pop-up app that will help? I tried one.. no luck.

I'm desperate.. I'm even considering getting a new phone, praying it doesn't happen again.

ANY advice would be appreciated!

I may have figured it out.. Google Play.
Yes, once I "uninstalled" the provider of the apps, the pop-up of the apps (and google play itself) seems to have stopped. It never occured to me Google would be the culprit, but it appears it may be.
So moving forward, I'll simply "reinstall" google play when I need/want an app, then uninstall it when I'm done..
Nice Google.. Real nice.

I'll keep you posted if this is indeed true.

tap the play store icon
tap settings (3 horizontal bars on top left)
scroll down
tap settings - see what is checked - the only thing I have checked is the add icon to home screen.
hth

I'll check it out. Stay tuned..
Also keep in mind, the pop ups I'm getting are GAME app adds... apps that I don't own, never have. Just an FYI..
Trying to provide as much info as possible

Hmmm. It definitely isn't google sending you those notifications. You know how I know? They don't target things their users don't want, that's why their a billion dollar company ;)

- Have you installed any apps outside the market?
- Did the apps u installed look sketchy to begin with?

It's definitely not Google doing it. It's the whatever it is "free" adware game or app doing it. And often it's things like Uber or freemium games or dating apps etc, that are being pushed, basically things that want your money.

I totally agree with Kris, the REAL Google would never do that to you. Last time I had a problem very similar to yours I used the FREE Malwarebytes app and it found the culprit on the first scan!!!

google play itself shouldn't do it - fire it up and check what you have selected in settings.

hello. I cant really offer any help directly but I'm getting a crazy number of pop ups - the latest was blocked , by what I don't know but it looked like it tried to install a .apk . It came from opentraff i think whatever that is. Is there a way to track where all this stuff is coming from? Is ghostery browser a good start? thx

Have a look at NoRoot Firewall. It can allow or deny specific web accesses. A good tool to see what apps are requesting web accesses.
