how can i stop receiving pop ups saying i have a new text please?

Shouldn't have any. Just a little icon in the notification bar. Course you can turn that off by going into the settings menu when you are in the messaging app.

Disable them in the app. It would really help us to help you if you'd post what messaging app you're using. We're not psychic.
