Portable WiFi antenna/booster? Not for data

Is there such a thing an antenna you can connect to your mobile phone to improve the WiFi reception? I think they have such things for boosting cell/data reception, but I use WiFi only. I only need an antenna that will boost my WiFi reception. I'd like to have one that I can carry to various buildings when I'm on the go.

What are the options if your phone doesn't have an external connection for an antenna?

Range extender sounds like the word for it. I'm talking about something I would install/attach to my phone, not a router.

Depends if your phone has a connection for an external WiFi antenna. Most phones have the capability of connecting an external antenna for the cellular radio, and a few offer the same capability for WiFi and/or Bluetooth.

I believe the range extender that dabig referred to is the type that you plug into the wall. Basically, you put it in range of the router, it picks up the signal and retransmits it.
