Porting Phone Number

Let's say I buy a phone that works with MetroPCS and it give me a new number. I may find a great deal before current contract ends. My current plan with Vzw doesn't end until Dec. 8th, can I then port the current number with vzw over to MPCS, about Dec. 6 or so? I won't need the new number when the contract ends.

Yeah you can do this but your Verizon plan may charge you for breaking the contract cause if i remember they go til the last drop . But if not and your prepaid you can get a few bucks back .

I'm not using prepaid with vzw. So you're saying I'll have to wait until the very last day of the contract or after the contract ends to port the number? Hmmm, interesting.

Maybe the last day you can port but keep in mind when porting the number it wont be able to use on new or old so if anyone is try to get you from the old number tell them to wait aleast a week till try again cause porting can take 4days to 6 sometimes this is cause the two companies may not clash .

This is my experience with porting a number; when my wife and I went to Metro, from A T & T, we ported her number over. It was active the same day. We paid the early termination fee (we had 2 or 3 months left on our contract).

Call verizon and let them know that you do not want to renew contract with them. Once contract time is over, go to MetroPCS store and your number will be transferred the same day, some people might not be able to reach you same day, but it goes away within 24 hours. I would also call Verizon after transfer to make sure there are no outstanding balances, you never know.

@unamedny, first off, there are no MetroPCS stores near me. The locator map show Houston, TX is nearest one, I'm in Stlmo! I guess I can call and have it transferred? If I purchase the phone before Vzw contract ends, MPCS will give me a number I could use until then?

Requesting your number be ported will cancel your Verizon service, so I wouldn't make the request until your contract ends. Check with Verizon if you can do it on the 8th or wait until the 9th to avoid an ETF.

Like alfick3, when I've ported a number it was completed the same day.
