Position marker in Google Maps

I use Google Maps with the traffic layer enabled, even when I am not using Navigation (like when commuting to my regular location). I also prefer leaving the map oriented north-south. A small gripe; the position pointer, which is a light blue arrowhead, always points to the Northeast, regardless of the direction of travel. Secondarily the color makes it more difficult to see my position while the device is in its mount on the dashboard.
Is there any way to correct the marker orientation? Also, is there a way to change the color of the marker?
