Possible Cure for Random Reboots

While I proudly carry a Note 8, my Darling Bride sports a Galaxy S8 Plus. She's very happy with it, but it's had a really annoying problem that is well known by S8 owners... and wholly ignored by Samsung.

Random reboots.

In fact, she was in the middle of a phone call and her phone just rebooted!

I contacted Verizon Tech Support, and the CR was very helpful in helping find a solution. Some websites recommend pulling the microSD card: but our cards are new, state of the art, brand name cards and not a likely culprit. Others jump straight to factory reset. Her solution?

Go to Settings --> Apps --> Show System Apps and wipe the caches of Phone and Settings.

I did that and then rebooted the phone. So far (fingers crossed), no random reboots. I'm hoping that resolves it... if so, a lot of people can breathe easy knowing that they can put their microSD cards back in and NOT factory reset their phone!

That is not a normal thing. If you ever do factory reset the device... try to let it run a few days prior to installing 3rd party apps. If you experience a random reboot, it is most likely a hardware issue and i would suggest a warranty exchange. If this solves the problem, it is most likely a poorly coded 3rd party app. Try not to restore anything more than your backed up files (pictures, videos) when doing a factory reset as restoring your apps might restore the culprit. Good luck!

Thank you for your post, Joey, but a brand new Android flagship device should not have any problems that would prevent its full use the first few days of ownership... and without 3rd party apps, the phone may as well be a dumbphone. The Darling Bride has no apps that she hasn't used for a long time. According to articles I'm reading, it's not "normal" but it IS common. A lot of S8 owners are experiencing random reboots, and we all have different apps and usage levels. My 0.02
