story for the click-lazy:
It was first reported earlier this week that Samsung is preparing a new compensation program for Galaxy Note 7 owners who have already been through a lot over the past couple of months. The report suggested that Samsung will offer cash discounts on the purchase of its future flagship to those customers. Samsung is already providing monetary incentives to get people to exchange the Galaxy Note 7 for one of its other devices. A report out of Korea claims that the new compensation program will allow Galaxy Note 7 customers to get the Galaxy S8 for free, or by paying a nominal amount.

According to the report, this program will be open to those who have already exchange their Galaxy Note 7 for a Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge. They will then be able to exchange that handset for the Galaxy S8 free when it comes out early next year. The cost of the exchange will either be zero of nominal, it’s reportedly going to depend upon if it’s the customer’s first or second exchange of the Galaxy Note 7.

“The new compensation program is designed to make it easier for those who exchange their Galaxy Note 7 with existing Samsung smartphones, to shift into our next model coming in next year,” a Samsung official has been quoted as saying in the report. How Samsung will actually process these claims remains a mystery right now, official details are slim right now so until more is said about this by the company itself, I’ll continue to be skeptical about such a compensation program for Galaxy Note 7 owners.

IMO it's the least Samsung could do... especially for those of us who turned in not one, but TWO Note 7s!

But the Galaxy S8 isn't going to cut it for me: I want the Galaxy S8 Plus, S8 Pen, Super S8... whatever they're going to call the phone with an S-Pen. I would be very surprised if they green-lit a "Note" next year.

So far, all things considered, I'm still feeling pretty happy about my completely FREE Note 7. Even though it might melt down at any moment.

I'm reading articles suggesting that Samsung will retire the "Note" brand, and release a Galaxy S Plus with S-pen. Considering that CES and MWC are coming up fast, I'd like to think that the Note 7's replacement, the Galaxy S8 Plus, will be in stores as early as April!

That would be awesome! I'm also hoping we'll see that 6GM of RAM and 128GB or even 256GB of internal storage offered, and a UFS expansion card slot.

I'm really holding out hope for a 4K UHD dual-edge screen, at least 5.7" in size, and a 2017 Gear VR that will take full advantage of it. I think 6 or 8 GB RAM is a safe bet... and the microUSB-UFS hybrid slot is something I would expect to see. It'll remain a hybrid slot for a few years, until more users have made the switch.

IMO, smart move. I said that when they cut the Note 7, they better figure out exactly what happened before rushing, or just plain releasing a new unit. Their entire future in the smartphone market could well be at stake here. DON'T MESS IT UP!
You know, I'm sensing something strange that may be brewing over at Apphole.

Unfortunately, I actually have to purchase an iPhone 7 Plus for a nephew's X-mas present - Yuuuuk! Well the problem is that they have been scarce to get since release way back in Sept. and currently unavailable. I tried the online order and it says: Ship: Delivers Dec 7 - Dec 14 - Free. I don't understand how you release a phone and don't have availability for that long of a stretch (3 Months). Is it because they too found issues with that particular model and needed to look into it before releasing it in mass numbers. At least I'll give them credit if that's the case that they are taking precautions not to tarnish their image.

I know I'm probably being selfish, but I will rock my N3 for however long it takes Samsung to get a phone that sends Fireworks (wow - not sure now if that's an appropriate description) so it will get my attention and I finally see as a real upgrade.
