Possible to boost wifi strength with a usb plug wifi antenna?

Hi guys.

I was wondering if it was possible to boost signal strength on my wifi by using an antenna?

I recently bought the Mele A2000 Android 4.0 tv box and i was hoping to stream video content from my server from my bedroom. I get a ok signal. Just above half of the bars, but tests on my put.io account show speeds of just 5-600 kbps. Not nearly enough to stream anything really.

So i remember i had seen some andeoid tv boxes that had a WIFI antenna that plugged in by USB. And i was hoping to do the same.

Something like this: Mini 150M USB WiFi Wireless Network Card 802.11 n/g/b LAN Adapter with Antenna,Free Shipping+Drop Shipping-in Network Cards from Computer & Networking on Aliexpress.com

Hwever that will not be supported by android i think. But i am still looking.

Would it be possible to boost the signal strength this way?

Does anyone know of a good USB WIFI antenna?
