Possible to get the 500 mb data plan on a normal line?

I've probably mentioned before I'd like to get my mom a fancier phone, but since she'd never use the internet on it, but the apps and camera on smartphones would be good for her, I'm just wondering if its possible, on a normal line on a family plan, not Share Everything, to get her maybe the 500 mb a month one, and just keep the mobile data turned off and teach her how to use wifi. I'd probably just find a smartphone from the last few years is all and set it up to her line.

Go to a Verizon store. (A company store, not an independent Verizon dealer.) If you can't get a difinitive answer, talk to the store manager. If he can't help you, ask if he can call retention to see if they'll work something out for you. (Those are the people who do everything they're allowed to keep you from going to another carrier when your contract expires. They're supposed to 'retain' you as a customer.)

Fair enough. Honestly, I'd just like to get her a basic smartphone, with some bells and whistles, and just teach her to use wifi, if at all. Its hard to find a decent feature phone these days, it all seems to be either basic flip phones, or full on "you need to drop 30 a month to use this" smartphones.

I tried to get 500mb for one of my family lines (not SE) when they got a smartphone. No luck, was told it's 2gb minimum. That was a while back but I don't think you are going to be allowed to get anything but that. Do go in to a store and see...good luck!

I agree with Clementine_3, it's unlikely they'll let you do it, but you can try.

Does she have Sprint service in her area? Check out Ting, they're the only carrier I've seen that doesn't require data with a smartphone - if you don't use 3G/4G you never pay for it. Pretty low rates, and Ting has free voice roaming on Verizon. If they look good my signature will save you some cash.

For basic phones I just caught word that a new plan has just started up as a promotion with unlimited mobile to any mobile, unlimited text, and 500mb of mobile web for $40!!!
