Possibly a good bye to metro PCs?

I don't know. I just don't know. Fortunately, I'm not on contract. I don't like the idea of being even remotely associated with Sprint, let alone having them a prominent presence.

I'll wait for an official announcement about the merger. Not sure if SoftBank is the best name for a cell phone company. I find it hard to believe they will get rid of the Virgin Mobile, Boost Mobile and MetroPCS names... in addition to Sprint and T-Mobile. I could see combining Boost and Virgin Mobile into one prepaid company though (and maybe Metro also when they're all VoLTE).

As a Ting user I hope they let their other MVNOs continue. <insert worried face>

looks to me like only the ones direct under the umbrella gets touched, isn't Softbank the name in Japan? also metro PCs changes are moving fast...who knows what is going down..

I don't see them ditching the sprint name. Sprint goes all the way back to 1899 when it was brown telephone company. Also there are buildings and stadiums sponsored with the sprint name. Yes it's taken a hit in the past few years but the name is in no worse shape than t mobiles. I do think they should join all prepaid under the metro name though. In fact sprint themselves almost bought metro pcs before T-Mobile did.

SoftBank USA is the name of the domain they're putting ads around Washington DC with
http://www.softbankusa.com/ Probably doesn't mean that would be the new name but who knows
Here's one

I'd be all for the merger if it really is about bringing prices down. SoftBank just cut prices a little in Japan because of "competition" so who knows maybe it's just temporary to convince us over here.

I dunno if it really changes anything. We all become softbank customers. Not like anything really changes with service for a while. If it gets approved theyll have to decide what areas to divest and what not but really what does it change? Your prepaid customers now youll be prepaid customers if it goes thru. Its not like you get outstanding perks on metro that there taking away or anything. Theyll still offer unlimited plans. So its really the same thing in my eyes just a diff name behind it

It'll be interesting since t-mobile is already trying to combine LTE spectrum with metro already, then sprint will be in the mix, once it all irons out it might be a force to be reckoned with, until then it remains in infancy before it occurs.

It woulda been a bigger deal a few years ago when phones only supported a few bands but most of todays handsets support every major band anyone uses. Im sure it will have a few hiccups and things wont go as smoothly at first but really it shouldnt be that hard. The thing that doesnt change though is rural coverage thats still a major problem for them. But i can kinda see the plan in place worry about rural coverage later be a major force in urban areas now. They would finally have the ability to compete to get rural spectrum not just small blocks of 5×5 basically given to them by the goverment. It could be a good thing to have another major player instead of 2 big guns and 2 little ones who really stand no chance. If it dont go thru though itll be interesting to see what sprint does. Im sure t mobile will just look for another buyer possibly comcast but sprint would be hurtin bad.

yes all of this. some one should tell thoes sprint boys and gals

Didnt think they would kill of the sprint name so easily. Theres to much corporate sponsership involved in it. Though a magenta sprint logo doesnt aound to appealing.
