Possibly something new

I just found something by accident that is related to another function. If you use the Recently Used App List, you can long press on an app's icon to get a list:

Choosing "Multi Window" splits the screen and allows 2 apps on screen and functioning. You can go back and forth between apps. What I found was another way to get the same result. Just long press the "Recently Used App" button and you get this:

The top app is the one on screen when long pressing the button and you can scroll through the bottom window (which is the Recently Used App List ) and choose the app you want.
If everyone knew about this, then sorry for wasting space.

Yeah, knew about it.
I actually hate it.
Occasionally my phone slips in my hand and I touch it in whatever combination of ways that causes it to go into split screen.

Then it is maddening to try to figure out how to get it back to nornal.

What a useless 'feature' it is to me!

Sorry you don't like it. However, to get out of it, there are a two ways.
1. Long tap the split button that was for the Recently Used App List.
2. Drag the line that splits the screen all the way up, to get the bottom half of the screen or all the way down to get the top half.

It doesn't matter, as it completely messes up whatever I was doing and I always have to start whatever that was all over again.

I really just wish that it could be permanently disabled.

The screen is already too small for some things, and the last thing it needs is to be split into two screens that are too small to do anything!
