Help Post ICS Pattern Lock Issues

Ok, this is just weird. Post ICS, I opted to use the Pattern Lock as opposed to the Slide Lock that comes with ICS. All is well and good but if I'm using any app (e.g., Handcent, xScope, etc.) and hit the power button to turn off the screen, when I turn it back on the Slide Lock screen shows up.

Doesn't matter how many times I choose to use the Pattern Lock, if I'm using an app, it defaults back to the Slide Lock.

Any ideas?
