Prepaid 3G Sim Card service?

AndrStomp

Lurker
I'm wanting to purchase an Android phone, and I really like the freedom and privacy that prepaid sim cards offer. I read that some prepaid sim cards for this purpose can be bought in stores but I also read that some of these cards are not compatible between phones.

So is there any way I can purchase an android phone, get a prepaid sim-card / service with it, and just pay as I go? Something that doesn't require any personal information to activate? Since I don't have it within my means to prove any of this to a would - be provider

Welcome to the forum.

You need to tell us where you live before you get a meaningful answer.

For example where I live (UK) any SIM will work in any phone it fits, but where I suspect you might live (US) it gets a lot more complicated.

I can definitely say in the UK you can buy a pre-paid SIM, activate and use it without giving any personal information whatsoever. Because that's what I've just done, using a Lebara SIM bought at Heathrow, LHR. Providing the phone is unlocked and not North American bands and modes only, you should be OK in the EU at least.

Should be able to purchase an unlocked Android smartphone in pretty much any country, but you will be paying full price for it of course in absence of any carrier contract subsidy.

if your in the US i would recommend this:

USA Prepaid SIM Cards for Short-Term Wireless Service - Ready SIM

after putting in the sim all you do is entire your zip code and it starts working, no registration or personal info of any kind needed. It uses t-mobile's network.

I used a 14 day one when testing out a moto X back in june and it worked great.

edit: looks like they've change to supporting lte since I used them, not sure if that matters.
