Prepaid phones prices shot up!

Phones for pre-paid have always been high because you generally have to pay full retail. One of the benefits of going contract post-paid is that carriers will subsidize the price of the device and thus make it cheaper upfront, but you tend to pay more in the long run.

I know that. The current prices are much higher than the prepaid prices before the big changes.

The Blaze was 300 with a card for 100, the Galaxy Exhibit 180 with 50, the Note 2 650 with 50,...

They definitely went up right at the time they eliminated contracts. I ended up buying my Note 2 from a private party because it would have been close to $800 with tax to buy from T-Mobile. It wasn't worth an extra $250 to have a warranty.

You could get them cheap in best buy or Walmart still.
(L9 is $199.89 for example at Walmart, $210 at best buy i think)

I would never buy a phone off contract from a carrier store unless it was a newly released model. Carriers will still sell a yr old phone that flopped for the same price that it launched at.

Ain't that the truth. Ebay or Craigslist is the best way for a nicely used phone
