As a kid, I had WWII vintage powdered eggs on many a camp out. Also had lemonade from powder and hard candies from the same era. Seemed plenty good at the time and had to be over a couple of decades old. I'm guessing the art of preparing long shelf storage foods has come a long ways since the mid forties. I haven't tried any so I can't speak first hand.
I'm talking dinners here not treats. They had like a casserole in a pouch.!

I have a good friend that is a "prepper" He puts up food vs buying ready to go foods. Even investing in food grade containers and dehydrators and vacuum equipment etc... he is quite satisfied he's better prepared for much less money.
When's the last time he ate some and how old was it?
That I can't say. It's like a hobby in itself for him. He's has been storing stuff for nearly a decade. I'll have to ask him if he's cracked anything open. Surely he's been into some of his early stuff by now... if for no other reason than to see if he's putting up a good product.

I've never visited the site but years ago he mentioned a forum... Frugal Squirrel. I don't know now if he was recommending it or condemning it lol... sorry. The name stuck with me.

I'm not worried about a SHTF scenario but I'd like my 25 year shelf life advertised food to taste good after 10 years.
What if your cupboard catches fire and you only have time to take one thing out?

I'm guessing it's as good on year 25 as it is on day one. If you like it to begin with, I think you are good to go.
That sounds like space food or astronaut meals. Where it's in a sealed pouch, and it's basically sucked or squeezed out through a tube. Normal meals served on a plate or tray can't be had in zero-G of course.
