By not doing a factory reset. ;)

Do you mean, how can you restore your apps after a factory reset? Your paid apps will be listed when you go to the Market (if you bought them there) and can be downloaded again without charge.

Free apps can also be downloaded but you'll have to look them up yourself. Some people use Appbrain to make the process easier.

There are also backup apps nowadays that don't require root, but I have not tried any.

Astro does a fine job at backing up and reinstalling apps on non rooted phones.

I think what hes asking is how do you prevent someone else from factory reseting your phone. Theres no point having a remote-lock/remote-wipe app if a 2 min factory restore will simply wipe it all away. My friends nokia requires authentication via pin to be able to restore. This is the only way to ensure your phone is secure.
