prevent apps from starting AND uninstall question

Good day. Thanks in advance for your help. I have a Verizon HTC Incredible 2 with Android 2.3.4.

1. I find that certain apps starting without requesting them. This is not necessarily at start up. Examples are VZ Navigator, My Verizon Mobile, Slacker, Google Search, Stocks, News, and Facebook. I believe all of these come preinstalled, courtesy of Verizon. Can I prevent these apps from starting? I do use FB from time to time, but don't use the others afaik.

2. Is there a way to uninstall most of these Verizon apps WITHOUT rooting the phone. If yes, which ones are safe to uninstall without screwing up my phone, as how can I do it. There are no uninstalls for these apps, unlike others.

Regards,

Mark

I don't believe you can uninstall preinstalled apps without root. You don't want to uninstall them anyway. Doing so will prevent you from applying future updates.

If you choose to root your device, it's best to either freeze the apps or move them to an alternate directory.

I was afraid of that. Thanks ...

I have the same phone, and per the recommendations on the inc 2 board, installed juice defender. All the apps you've listed are on my disable list, which means they can't open w/o my express permission. Best $1.99 I ever spent!
