Preventing a virus

What is the best way to prevent hackers from getting into your internal storage or from getting a virus on your phone? Any ideas?

Well unless you're a hermit like Horatio Torquemada Marley it's not quite that simple. I'd say you should download an antivirus app from the play store. Honestly I can't say which one is best so you'll have to do a bit of research on that one. Also make sure the option to install unofficial apps isn't ticked unless you need it.

Really funny Hermit name "Horatio Torquemada Marley" :)

There aren't any viruses (self-propagating malware) for Android, so the infection risk is you installing an app that contains malware. Care about where you install from and what you install is therefore your first line of defence.

The biggest hacking risk is your Google account. So make sure that, and any other account on the phone, is properly secured.

What's the best way to secure my Google account? Also, are there any good security /privacy apps that you know of? My friends phone was hacked, so I just want to be safe!

Login to your Google account on a PC and check your contact information is accurate (alternate email for account recovery and your cell number). Remove any info that's out of date or incorrect, then go to https://myaccount.google.com/security and enable 2-Step verification. This way, whenever you log into your Google account, you will be prompted for a security code that will be either sent by email or SMS to you. Even if a hacker guesses the password they will still need the code to get into your account.

Accounts for games and subscriptions are less important that thinks like banks and credit cards, or email. You should also NOT ever use the same password for multiple accounts.
