Previous text messages from a specific person

For some reason I can only see text messages from someone on the day I received them...not previous ones. Is there a special text message setting to change that?
 
Will give that a try for sure thanks! Probably another dumb question but can both the messages AND messages + apps be enabled at the same time? Also how do I keep incoming text messages from popping up on whatever screen I have open at the time
 
You can have both text apps installed at the same time, but only one can be your default. Not to worry, they all use the same database so you won't lose any messages or have them split between two apps.
 
I'm not sure about the specifics. Messages+ is probably the default SMS app that comes with Motorola phones. Messages (linked above) is the SMS app from Google that replaced the SMS functions of Hangouts. Probably the app you'd get if you bought a Pixel.

Sometimes manufacturers get a little too clever for their own good and muddle basic apps with features to the point of breaking basic functions. There are plenty of other SMS apps out there with more features like Chomp and Textra, but my needs are simple and I prefer to stick with what works without adding additional layers of complexity that I'll never have need for.
