Price drop on VM iPhone 4s after iPhone 5 announcement?

Just noticed the unlocked iPhone 4S has dropped to $549 at the Apple Store. Any corresponding price drop on Virgin Mobile iPhone 4S expected? Web site still says $649...

You have to think it will happen, just a matter of how quickly they do it.

My question is how long it will take VM to get the new iPhone? My guess is that it won't happen until/at the same time VM releases an LTE Android phone. I've thought that likely will occur next summer.

I'm hoping YEARS!!!! I'm still bleeding from my wifes last iPhone purchase :D

No its would be the iphone 5s :P

First off i feel for anyone who pays 600 dollars for a 30 dollar phone, second add VM's terrible 3G and it is a disaster, unless sprint adds 4G Lte support for VM users the Iphone 5 would just be a blatant rip-off.

Thanks I'll take the pity :p .... but some people (the wife) 'NEED" an iPhone. For the record I paid $650 and have paid more for worse things to keep someone happy :D

I'm not a fan of the iphone, but I'd hardly call it a $30 phone.

I agree. I really dislike the iPhone, mainly due to it's lack of flexibility, but it is a nice phone. Just not worth $500 more than an Elite.

I agree, but then again the true retail prices of most phones (especially newly released phones) are bogus. It's a ploy that the carriers & manufacturer's started in the early days of cell phone service to make people think they are saving a lot of money by signing a contract. Do you really think that in a truly open market ,where anyone could buy any phone, and bring it onto any compatible carrier without signing a contract, newly released phones would be selling for $600-$800 or more? No way. They probably would be about $300-$400.

It costs Apple 35.00 dollars to build an Iphone.
Are you pulling that figure out of your backside or do you have any info to back up that number? 30 seconds of net searching is showing a price tag of more like $175 for parts alone. Google and Asus have stated the Nexus 7 is barely break even at it's current price point of $199.

More like he misread something. The parts for the iPhone 5 cost $36 more than the parts for the iPhone 4S. Here is a quote I found:

Bill of materials for the entry-level 16GB iPhone has been estimated at just $167.50, according to an analysis published Friday by UBM TechInsights. In comparison, UBM TechInsights estimated that the 16GB iPhone 4S has a bill of materials of $132 ($112 for the iPhone 4).

The $36 difference between the iPhone 5 and its predecessor covers new technologies Apple built in, including the larger four-inch Retina, the speedier A6 chip, some new sensors and mics and 4G LTE modem from Qualcomm, to name a few…

I think this shows how bad the contract phone plans are for consumers. Because people get "free" phones with their contracts, they never actually realize how much they are paying for their phones. Can you imagine if the phone companies actually were competing directly (non-subsidized) how prices would drop? While I can see Apple still charging $500, merely because the phone says "Apple", I think you'd see new phones (like the S3) at half the cost they currently sell for.

The Nexus tablet is a good example -- it is sold with little profit margin, whereas all phones seem to have at least a 100% markup, or in the case of newer phones a 300% markup.
