Hi Guys

I'm newbie to the android world and apps. I've seen that some apps require access to phone status and ID but can't possibly see the reason for this other than gaining imei and phone numbers. Does anybody out ther know why this is?

A lot of apps use this as a way of creating unique ID for the user for use with the LVL License check DRM.

This permission also allows an app to disable itself (say the app was a music player) when a call is incoming.

^^^ What alostpacket said. In addition, if you are overly concerned about an apps permissions, then you should contact the developer for an explanation. More times than not, they'll be happy to let you know exactly what the app is doing.

Thanks Guys. I was getting a bit paranoid thinking this would allow the app makers to have more control over the phone etc without me knowing it. Gotta stop watching those movies!
