The problem is that Google Photos is great for backing up every picture on every device attached to that Google account, and they can be sorted into albums... but there is no way to password-protect a photo or album. Once someone is in, they can see everything. I would really like to see an option to protect albums with passwords.
The problem with cloud storage, Scuba, is that it costs money to maintain the servers and companies aren't in the business to lose money. However, you might consider an NAS (Network Attached Storage). It's in your possession at all times, you can access it from anywhere, it's secure and it costs you one time. We have cloud storage, but we also have a Western Digital 12TB NAS (two 6TB drives mirrored to each other for redundancy). It might be a good option for you.
