Problem creating groups

Hebrews12

Newbie
Hi there

I've looked on several forums but haven't been able to find the answer to this one.

I have a Galaxy Ace and for some reason, all of my contacts are saved as Google contacts - apart from new contacts which are set to be saved to my phone. I want to create some groups but can't if they are Google contacts. This seems to be a recognized problem. Someone suggested moving all my contacts my SIM card and then importing them back to the phone as Phone contacts. However, when I try and do this, it only gives me the option to export the contacts saved as Phone contacts and not the Google contacts to the SIM card. I can't find any way of exporting the contacts saved as Google contacts. Can anyone help please?

You can create new contact groups 2 ways:
1. Log into your Gmail with a browser, go to Contacts > Settings > Groups > Create new group.
2. On the phone open the Contacts app (aka People), select a contact, then Menu (3 dots) > Edit > Groups (at bottom) > Tap triangle lower right > Bottom of list > Create new group.

2 ways to export:
1. In a browser Gmail > Contacts > Import/Export > Select All or choose Groups.
2. On the phone open Contacts > Menu (3 dots) > Import/Export. You cannot choose by groups on the phone.

Contacts cannot be exported to the SIM. It has very limited capacity and can store names and phone numbers only anyway.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Your suggestion about doing it on the phone doesn't work but I will try doing it through the Google account. Is there any way of changing all of my contacts so that they are just phone contacts and not Google contacts?

That's weird. I can arrange my contacts into groups wheb if they're all Google Contacts. Anyway you can export them to SD card, then import it again as phone contacts.

Personally speaking though, Google contacts are better than phone contacts. But that's just me.

Thanks again. However, it won't even let me do that. When I try and export to Sim or SD card, it says there aren't any contacts to export.
