Problem obtaining IP address on tablet

Hi

I have just purchased a Prestigio hd 7 3970 model tablet for the hubbie. I couldn't afford an Ipad and after reading the reviews thought this would be just the ticket for him as he has very basic computer skills.
Anyway my problem is that I am trying to connect to wifi but it is stuck on obtaining IP address. I found a thread on here to change it to static , I did this but it would not let me save the change as I had to go down through some IP numbers etc We have 2 mobile phones and a laptop that connect to wifi without any problems.
Any advice would be gratefully received
