Help Problem sending files

Android Expert
I have an HTC One M9 with Android 6.0.1 and an HTC 10 with Android 7. They both have ES File Explorers. The “9" has had 3 different versions of ES File Explorer including the newest. The "10" has version 4.0.2. I haven't updated ES on my "10" because I don't like the new versions. My problem is I can send & receive files from the "9" to the "10" from every version I tried. I can send & receive files from the "10" to the "9". But after a few seconds of sending a file from the "9" (any version) to the "10", the "10" drops the connection from the "9" and the file isn't sent. Any ideas what I can do would be very helpful. Neither phone is rooted.

Right now I'm using an old version because ES stinks. Actually, I switched to another one but went back and refused to pay them. But thanks for the kick in the pants. This is the perfect time to dump them for good. Any suggestions? I like the gestures, multiple windows and send to home page.
Thanks again.

For a file explorer I'm trying Solid. To transfer files between phones, I'll give them a try, Thanks. I've been using WifiDroid to transfer files between phone & Win 10 PC, but its glitchy. HTCs app is terrible. So I'm looking.
