Problem with Calendar/Facebook

I'm having a problem with either Android calendar or Facebook app; I'm not sure which is causing a problem. I have my Facebook calendar set to sync to my phone, which works fine. Events and birthdays appear in my calendar on the phone as they should. However, I recently cleaned up my Facebook account and deleted a lot of old contacts. When I deleted these contacts their birthdays disappeared from my Facebook events, as you'd expect, but their birthdays still show up in my Android calendar, which is annoying.

My phone is set to automatically sync with Facebook, and I've also manually synced a number of times, but the birthdays remain.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Maybe try clearing the cache/data for the Facebook app and the calendar.

I thought that was going to work, but unfortunately it didn't. I cleared data for Calendar, HTC Sense Facebook and the market Facebook app. No results...
